Dow surpasses 16,000 as optimism prevails

FXstreet.com (Edinburgh) - The bullish sentiment persists amongst investors in the US markets, pushing the Dow beyond the key barrier at 16,000 on Friday. The absence of US releases left markets to the mercy of the risk trends, bolstering the current upside as well. The greenback, gauged by the US Dollar index, is trading in session lows around 80.70, extending the intraday descent from above the 81.00 handle. At the moment, DowJones is up 0.05% followed by the S&P500, 0.25% and the Nasdaq, 0.37%.

Bourses in Euroland closed mostly with gains amidst the better results from the German IFO indicator and renewed concerns about disinflationary pressures. The sole exception was the British benchmark, down 0.11%. The IBEX35 advanced 0.81%, seconded by the CAC40, 0.58% and the DAX, up 0.25%. The single currency is paring Wednesday’s losses, managing to regain the area of 1.3550/60.

In the commodities’ space, the ounce troy of gold is advancing just 0.04% at $1,244 while the barrel of WTI is retreating 0.37% around $95.00.
